PS1000 Ingredients: Rhodiola

Reasons Why Rhodiola May Be Beneficial for Weight Loss

Rhodiola Rosea, also called golden root, is an herb grown in Scandanavia, northern Europe, and the colder areas of Asia. It’s often used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine, and is also one of the main ingredients in the popular weight loss supplement PS1000.  Weight loss is one of the potential benefits of this supplement ingredient for a number of reasons, but Rhodiola may have other health benefits as well.

Stimulates the Lipase Enzyme

The lipase enzyme is hormone sensitive and is necessary for breaking down fat stored in the body. It can actually break down stored belly fat when used along with a reduced-calorie diet, such as the ps1000 diet. The herb doesn’t have as much of an effect if not combined with dietary changes, so don’t expect to lose a lot of weight simply by taking a Rhodiola supplement alone.

Effects Increased By Exercise

There’s a reason why experts typically recommend combining dietary changes with exercise. This combination is usually the most effective for weight loss. It also appears to increase the fat-burning effects of Rhodiola, so try to get some cardio exercise most days of the week – preferably 30 to 60 minutes per day for weight loss – and don’t forget to do some strength training as well to limit muscle loss and maximize fat loss as you lose weight. Interval training may be particularly beneficial for burning belly fat.

Reduces Stress and Stress Hormones

Rhodiola is known for reducing stress, including the release of stress-related hormones like cortisol. What you might not know is that cortisol is associated with weight gain, so anything that helps to limit its release in the body may be beneficial for those trying to lose weight. Reducing cortisol levels may help limit the cravings for comfort food people sometimes experience and make it less likely the body will deposit extra calories as this type of belly fat is most associated with adverse health effects. High cortisol levels can also cause memory problems, exhaustion, increased signs of aging, a weakened immune system, thyroid issues, and a decreased blood sugar response.

Increases Energy and Reduces Fatigue

One problem people sometimes have when trying to exercise more to increase their weight loss is that they get tired before they accomplish their goals. Rhodiola may be able to help with this by increasing the number of red blood cells you have available to carry oxygen around the body, allowing you to exercise comfortably for longer. Red blood cell production is stimulated when Rhodiola boosts levels of erythropoietin, or EPO, in the body.

Has Anti-Inflammatory Effects

The anti-inflammatory effects of Rhodiola help limit cell damage from harmful compounds called free radicals, which in turn helps improve endurance and speed up the recovery of fatigued muscles. This can allow you to exercise longer, burn more calories, and increase your overall weight loss. The antioxidants may help with blood pressure regulation and reducing heart disease risk as well.

May Increase Endurance

Animal studies showed that Rhodiola may help increase endurance by up to 25 percent, although further studies with people are necessary to verify this potential benefit. The theory is that Rhodiola increases the production of ATP in the body and the release of ATP from storage in the mitochondria, which means the cells have more energy. It also may increase muscle glycogen levels during exercise to help limit the lactic acid buildup that could otherwise cause cramping. This increased endurance can result in more activity throughout the day, potentially increasing your resting metabolic rate.

May Improve Concentration and Decrease Mental Fatigue

Even people who aren’t exercising may experience benefits from taking Rhodiola supplements. These include less fatigue from repetitive actions involving low levels of intensity as well as reducing the effects of sleep deprivation and brain fog.

May Increase Sensitivity to Serotonin and Dopamine

These neurotransmitters help to improve your mood, increase your focus, and improve your memory, and they also limit the chances you’ll suffer from depression or anxiety. Rhodiola may even help repair damaged neurons in your brain in the areas related to memory and emotion. These beneficial changes may help reduce the symptoms of ADHD in some people without the same potential side effects as prescription medications used for this purpose. Increased sensitivity to dopamine may have weight loss benefits by helping to fight addictions and cravings for food as well as improving your mood.

There are a few methods by which these beneficial effects occur. First, Rhodiola makes it so more of the precursors of serotonin cross the blood-brain barrier, increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain. Second, it actually blocks the breakdown of this hormone through the inhibition of an enzyme called COMT, keeping the serotonin active in the brain for a longer period and prolonging the mood and energy benefits of the serotonin.

Timing Makes a Difference

For the most benefits from taking Rhodiola as a part of PS1000, take your supplement about 15 minutes before eating meals.

Opt for the Right Concentrations of the Active Ingredients

Most of the benefits from Rhodiola appear to be due to the salidroside rather than the rosavin in Rhodiola extract. If using a stand-alone Rhodiola rosea extract, look for one that contains about 3 percent salidroside and 1 percent rosavin. PS1000 is formulated with multiple other ingredients to get the best efficacy.

Be Aware of Potential Side Effects

While most people tolerate Rhodiola well and don’t experience significant side effects, some people do experience a dry mouth or dizziness. If these symptoms continue, it’s best to stop taking this supplement. It’s also important to take Rhodiola earlier in the day, as it can have an energizing effect on some people, which may interfere with sleep.
